After being to many different martial arts gyms across Toronto, TKMT was by far my favourite choice. TKMT was different from all of the other gyms in that it had a great environment to be around and an excellent style of teaching Muay Thai Kickboxing. I became interested in Muay Thai Kickboxing a couple years ago, after searching for a new way to get in shape and learn something new. I wanted to find a martial art that incorporated a mix of different techniques, encouraged my cardio development, and focused on conditioning. After some research I came across Toronto Kickboxing & Muay Thai Academy. The website is very informative and user-friendly. Warren was extremely helpful in answering all my questions about the gym. The six-month special sealed the deal for me, and I joined the TKMT in February 2008.
I took notice that the membership was evenly split between the two genders, which really made the atmosphere a lot more comfortable for me as a woman (seeing as how the physical sport is male-dominated). I even got a couple of my friends to join as well, one of which doesn't even seem to be the "kickboxing-type", yet she absolutely loves it. I was going to classes about three times a week and almost immediately noticed a change in my metabolism, strength and stamina. I lost 10lbs. within the first 3 months I was there, increased my flexibility, and doing more and more push-ups didn't seem to be the difficult feat that they were for me in the past.
I’m always greeted with a smile upon entering through the reception area, and the rest of the members are friendly. I find the classes well structured, and the variety good enough to learn at a consistent and comfortable pace. All the instructors are very helpful, eager to help members grow and reach their goals.
Although my current job has kept me from attending classes at the Queen Street location recently, I can't wait until the new gym is opened near Davisville, because the location will be perfect for me.
