DANIEL RODRIGUES, Muay Thai Kickboxing Instructor

Daniel took his first Muay Thai class in 1993 and had no idea what Muay Thai Kickboxing involved. He knew however, that he was getting into something more serious than his previous American kickboxing experience where gym members walked around and trained in colourful and shiny shorts. He was immediately hooked. After a two to three year period, Daniel left Muay Thai training and started to focus more on weight training, nutrition and other life matters. It was only after several years later that Daniel felt that something was missing in his training regimen, and that was the passion for combat sports. Starting back up Muay Thai once again in 2004, Daniel hasn.t looked back since. He trained in several different gyms in the GTA and Montreal. Daniel finally made his home permanently with TKMT, received his CASK coaching certification and has been an instructor with the club since 2007.

Another ongoing passion Daniel has is nutrition and weight training for fat loss and muscle endurance. He has successfully put together eating and supplement guidelines and challenging weight training routines for friends, acquaintances and clients for over a span of 20 years. He is the founder of his own health website that helps to transition to a healthier lifestyle, helping people to make health, training and good nutrition a part of their lives permanently.

Daniel continues to train in Muay Thai, as well as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Nova Uniao.s Cesar Rezek, Mixed Martial Arts, and is pursuing the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) boxing Ontario for coaches.

CRISTIAN REYES, Assistant Instructor

Cristian first started training in Jeet Kune Do under Ralph Lawatarski, and then under Sean Swinger at FAC. He then moved on to study the Russian martial art “Systema” under Vladimir Vasiliev. Then after, Cristian was introduced to Muay Thai by Kru Mel at Lanna Muay Thai, and instantly fell in love with the art. He was particularly drawn to the intense workouts, drills, pad work and sparring. Then in 2008 Cristian met Warren Lee and Ajahn Amnat at TKMT, and started with the Saturday Muay Boran class and then eventually progressed to training at TKMT full time. He is very happy to be a part of the TKMT team because everyone welcomed him and accepted him as “part of the family” since day one. Cristian looks forward to sharing his enthusiasm with all beginner students at TKMT Uptown.

EDRIC LOW, Muay Thai Kickboxing Instructor

As soccer player from the age of five, Edric has always led an active lifestyle and has been involved in competitive athletics for the majority of his life. At the pinnacle of his athletic career, he received a soccer scholarship and played for two years in the United States before having to undergo two major knee surgeries. At this point he turned his focus to academia in which he earned his B.A. in Business Economics. Albeit his misfortune, he still felt that he needed to satisfy his competitive nature and that is when he decided to study Muay Thai Kickboxing. Today Edric is not only enamoured with practicing this combat sport, but with the Thai culture and traditions that are synonymous with the art. He also enjoys teaching Muay Thai at all levels as well as helping out with designing TKMT administrative procedures, curriculum and instructor professional development. His favourite weapons are knees and teep!
